Tribute to Directors: Sofia Coppola (Part 1)
April 8th 2011 00:36
A new possible series-type post.
I’ll take a director (probably one who doesn’t have a very large catalog) and do tribute posts with pictures, song usage (if applicable) and/or video clips and random quotes. First up: Sofia Coppola
Here is my fourth favorite film from her (mind you, I love each one so much that all of these are going to look too low).
Sofia Coppola's direction is incredibly controlled and minimalist. She finds the small moments that you'd love to lose yourself in completely. She concentrates on the things we take for granted. Coppola frames these moments around some highly beautiful and atmospheric visuals. She was the perfect spawn for a tribute of this kind -- which focuses mostly on pictorial beauty.
#4 Lost in Translation (2003)
The Jesus and Mary Chain is one of my favorite bands so when Coppola decided to use Just Like Honey it in the film's crucial climatic scene I nearly died.

Charlotte: I tried taking pictures, but they were so mediocre. I guess every girl goes through a photography phase. You know, horses... taking dumb pictures of your feet.
Charlotte: Stay here with me. We'll start a jazz band.
