Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen
June 25th 2009 11:54
Dir Michael Bay.
Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Running Time: 150 minutes
So what is the appeal of high tech CGI movies? Is it the assault on the senses or the seat of your pants adrenalin rush? Whatever it is, it wore me out in Michael Bay’s latest offering. Now look, for Hasbro fans, from the texting generation and for the over 30s who were TV fans when they were kids, the first film was quite a gem. This latest offering is definitely riding on the coat tails of that success. I have no doubt that it will earn mega bucks, and lets face it, we are talking about the Film Industry here.
So where did it all go wrong? For me it was when the heroes were unknowingly transported to Aqaba in Jordan, which appears to be next door to the Pyramids at Giza, a suburb of Cairo – no wait, the Pyramids are next to Luxor or perhaps some other deserty type foreign place that Americans have only ever invaded but never been to on holiday. I think like most filmgoers I expect to be treated with a measure of respect, especially at the exorbitant prices we have to pay these days to see a film on the big screen.
Sorry, I wasn’t convinced by leBeuf being bandaged by his girlfriend Florence Nightingale to explain away his MVA hand injury. Where did the bandages come from? Oh yes, that’s right, they must have teleported to Jordan or was it Giza or was it Paris? Or was it when any semblance of creativity teleported out of this film script?
I was so disappointed when this film lost its way, it appears that Bay forgot about the kidnapping of leBeufs parents in Paris and then suddenly remembered them when the film was about to come to an end. I’m pleased, I would have hated to been worried about them after the film ended. Did I want my money back? Absolutely. Would I recommend this film to anyone? Probably not. Will I go see the next one? Of course I will, Bay has to redeem himself and fix this, after all, I still have my original Optimus Prime figure from 1979.
