Top 35 Talented Actors 35 and Under (Part 3)

October 2nd 2010 04:00
Top 35 Most Talented Actors Age 35 and Under (#'s 15-6)

15. Matthew Goode (Age 32)

I’ve seen Matthew Goode in four films, and he was compeltely different in each one. He’s someone that rather captivates while watching him on screen. I hope he’ll be able to steer away from the more mainstream works and continue taking intriguing roles

14. Andrew Garfield (Age 27)

He's fantastic in The Red Riding Trilogy and The Social Network. Plan to see Boy A as soon as possible as well as Never Let Me Go. He was incredibly engaging and completely carried the first Red Riding film, which was the best of the series, largely in part to his acting. He brought something to his Social Network role that I'm not sure other actors would have. He’ll soon become huge after the Spider-man reboot, but I doubt he will succumb to Hollywood’s magnetic pull.

13. Colin Farrell (Age 34)

Oh, Colin Farrell. I went from not overly caring for Colin Farrell one way or another to completely adoring the man, basically after In Bruges in which he gives a charismatic performance of epic proportions. He was also so nicely understated in Crazy Heart – a role he could have milked. I look forward to all his future endeavors.

12. Paul Schneider (Age 34)

Paul Schneider is incredible. His performances are always consist and he’s hilarious as well (see: the American sitcom Parks and Recreations). Given his growing success in films, he’ll actually be taking a hiatus from his television role. Schneider has a knack of stealing scenes away from veteran actors and newcomers alike. I still have to see him in a some other films, particularly All the Real Girls.

11. Gael Garcia Bernal (Age 31)

Gael Garcia Bernal gave me two of my favorite film performances with his turns in Bad Education and The Motorcycle Diaries. While he was great in Y Tu Mama Tambien and Amorres Perros, it was those two films in which he really made me stop and go: wow, this guy has something special.

10. Vincent Kartheiser (Age 31)

I’ve loved Vincent Kartheiser for years. Since before he was Connor on Angel and Pete on Mad Men. After Angel, I knew he was something great and wished he would’ve gotten more exposure. He was then amazing in a small indie film, Dandelion, as well as an off-off Broadway play called Slag Heap. Karthesier was given another shot at the mainstream with Mad Men and it’s some of the finest work you’ll find on television. Sadly, he’s lately being reduced to that of a bit character but hopefully the show will even out it’s character balance so Kartheiser will stay on reviewers and critics radars alike.

9. Michael Fassbender (Age 33)

Fassbender is one of those actors where I think to myself: honestly, where did this guy come from? One day my life was WF (without Fassbender) and then next he’s there and fabulous. In Fishtank, he blew me away. He’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

8. Cillian Murphy (Age 34)

Cillian always takes interesting roles and does interesting things with them. He’s someone I always look forward to seeing. He shows great range and is rather fearless. He’s unconcerned with status; he just acts.

7. Casey Affleck (Age 35)

Like Joaquin Phoenix, I separate the recent personal developments and general off-screen persona from Affleck’s craft as an actor. And in that respect, he’s fantastic. He’s proven he possesses great comedic timing as well dramatic capabilities. His standout performance is without a doubt The Assassination of Jesse James. He’s also fantastic in Gone Baby Gone.

6. Ryan Gosling (Age 29)

Gosling is so much more than The Notebook, a film I’ve never seen and don’t feel my life is lacking because of that. He’s incredible in Lars and the Real Girl and Half Nelson and Fracture but utterly astounding in Blue Valentine, alongside Michelle Williams, one of today’s finest young actresses. He’s someone I never fail to get excited over. Unless he’s in a Nicholas Sparks adaptation...
