PGA Reaction and DGA Predictions
January 31st 2010 00:37
The PGA awards were held last weekend. I could not in good conscience vote for Avatar.
Therefore, I vote for what I felt should win and also, what my gut was telling me: The
Hurt Locker. And guess what? It won! Everyone was saying there was no way anything
but Avatar was winning but that wasn’t the case. Tonight is the DGA and I’m feeling
less confident about this one. There isn’t one doubt in my mind that Kathryn Bigelow
will win the Oscar for The Hurt Locker. But will she win the DGA tonight? I’m less than
sure. I’m picking her but I can easily see the DGA going for Cameron. Let’s face it – the
DGA is a boys club. It’s made up of solely directors, the majority men. Why wouldn’t
they go for Cameron over his ex-wife? It’s going to come down to, ultimately, whether
they will vote for Grit or Glam. Part of me really feels like they’ll go with the latter and
thus screw Bigelow out of her deserved award. But I’m still putting her down as taking
the win. If she loses tonight, it won’t have too much of baring on Oscar night, in my
opinion. I feel Hollywood finally wants a woman to win Best Director.
My full DGA predictions:
Motion Picture
Kathryn Bigelow – The Hurt Locker
Documentary
The Cove
Made for Television Film
Michael Sucsy – Grey Gardens
Dramatic Series
Michael Weiner – Mad Men “Shut the Door. Have a Seat.”
Sorry for the lack of updates. I got engaged over Christmas and my mind has been on
wedding planning. I will post a review of Me and Orson Welles soon. I plan on watching
some other films tomorrow. And hopefully by tomorrow night or Monday the latest I will
have up both my Oscar nominations predictions and my Oscar dream ballot (both of
which I do every year with CinemaEnthusiast).
Tonight I will be awake when all you Aussie’s are to watch the Australian Open final! Go
Federer!!!!
