Follow-up to Overrated of Decade

May 16th 2010 02:51

A follow-up to Overrated films of the Decade List

My post stating my personal choices for the most overrated films of the decade was met largely with anger and rather childish comments from mostly anonymous individuals. I find the strong reaction very interesting, since it is a subjective list and was never meant to be taken as gospel. Instead, it was a personal expression of my own personal opinion for what I consider to be overrated. After all, film and film criticism is a largely subjective medium in general.

The syndicated film review TV show At the Movies recently decided to tackle the vast topic of overrated and underrated. They prefaced their own list of comic book films by admitting the concept of what is and is not overrated and underrated is a very personal thing. I did the same on my list. Yet, it still garnered some rather ridiculous comments.

I now ask you the reader to comment on what you feel were the top overrated films of 2000-2009. You may also wish to elaborate on what you may disagree on from my original post (here), with valid reasons as to why you agree or disagree, rather than saying childish statements such as ‘you suck’ or ‘you’re a woman and you wouldn’t even like these types of movies so why are you watching them anyway?’

Film discussion is a wonderful thing and a good debate is always a treat but it's a hard thing to do when you're not provided with an argument.

hehe. It's a syndicated show featuring film critics AO Scott and Michael Phillips. After Roger Ebert left 'Ebert and the Movies' due to his health it became At the Movies with two horrible hosts but they were soon replaced by real, respected critics, Scott and Philips. Not sure if you get it near you

We have a show with the same name featuring two respected Australian critics, Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton. They're both a lot older, so their tastes and sensibilities aren't always what tickle my fancy, and they are often worlds apart in their own opinions which makes for amusing banter.
I didn't realise Ebert was no longer on television, mind you we never had his show broadcast here in Australia anyway. He's a bit long in the tooth anyway.
